Fille Gets Her Hands Dirty

July 30th, 2004

I spent the last two days building a barn at my mom’s house. I gotta say, I’m pretty impressed with myself and my fellow barn builders. We managed to get the whole frame up in a day and a half. If it wasn’t for the thunder storms that came every hour and a half it could have been sooner. I have a 3-inch gash on my leg from a run-in with a nail that was sticking out of a board, and Rory totally clocked himself with the crowbar, but other than that and a few sore muscles we all emerged unharmed. Go us.

Thompson and I leave for Alabama on Wednesday. I’m pretty excited. We’ll get to chill at his dad’s lakehouse, go to the beach, and party with his friends. Then I may or may not go to my family reunion in the middle of BFE. Before I know it classes will be starting again. I’m actually looking forward to this semester. I’m a dork like that.

I’m really going to hate myself for staying up and writing this when I have to get out of bed in 6 hours, but I just wanted to let the world know that I’m still alive and well.

Peace,
~Em~

Chocolate Milk

July 12th, 2004

Tom made quite a tasty concoction at work Saturday night. It was two parts chocolate vodka, two parts Bailey’s, and one part Kahlua. It tasted exactly like chocolate milk, so that’s what I named it. Unfortunately I hadn’t eaten anything in seven hours and Tom kept bringing rocks glasses brimming with alcoholic deliciousness and I kept emptying them. I spent a good three hours in the bathroom after that, wanting to die. It’s now two days later and I still feel a little queasy. So, I recommend trying the drink out, but be warned that it’s a tad strong.

What Goes Around…

July 10th, 2004

I put a quarter into someone’s expired parking meter today in the hopes that someday someone else might do the same for me. Maybe there’s hope for humanity yet… I’m certainly not about to give up. I’d like to think that one day my kids will grow up in a world where people still do things like that. Peace, love, and brownies to all.

Superwoman Saves The Day (And Her Car)

July 9th, 2004

I totally changed my own brake pads and rotors yesterday. That means I can now change my own oil, rotate my tires, and do my own brake jobs. I think it’s important for girls to know how to take care of their cars. Or at least know how to change a flat. I actually kinda like changing tires… it’s fun jumping up and down on the tire iron to get the nuts loose. The brakes were in dire need of replacement… the right front tire constantly squealed from the pads rubbing against the lip that had formed on the rotor because it was so worn down. It’s so nice to be able to drive around without being embarassed about the horrifying sounds my car was making, and double nice because I saved myself $700 and it’s just cool to be able to fix your own car.

On another note, I’m already feeling the affects of my new diet. I’m happier and have tons more energy and I just feel good. But I still can’t help but look forward to that spicy chicken sandwich combo from Wendy’s that I’m going to allow myself to have next weekend. Mmmmmm!

The Pudge Stops Here

July 7th, 2004

It’s official… I’ve gained 15 pounds since April. Not cool. I knew eating fast food every day was going to take its toll eventually. So, no more drive-thru meals until next weekend… I’m thinking one every couple weeks won’t hurt me. I bought a TON of healthy food at the store tonight, and I’m getting serious about being more active. Today after dinner my mom and I took the dogs for a walk down by the lake. We ended up going the entire 3.6 miles, no sweat. I think tomorrow I’ll go rollerskating around the neighborhood… in my Skechers 4-Wheelers!!! I am soooo stylin.
